Born Tyreek Shaquille Phillips on May 20, 1992 in Toronto, Ontario, B1G Juice grew up on music and sports. At a young age, he was introduced to various genres of music (Disco, Rock, Soul, Rap, etc.) by his Father in his 92’ Nissan Maxima.
As he grew older his passion for sports specifically football, grew strong and everything else became background noise. At the age of 16, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia to chase an athletic-scholarship. After a year away from home, Ty obtained a full athletic-scholarship from Furman University in rural Greenville, South Carolina. In his sophomore year, he received many accolades for his performance on the field; including All-American (NCAA 1AA) and All-Conference (SOCON) recognitions but sadly, during the spring of 2012 after his sophomore year, Ty was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy of the Left Ventricle meaning he could no longer play football.
He was also diagnosed and treated for Depression and Anxiety Disorder following his diagnosis. Later that semester Ty dropped out of university and returned home. Back home, he underwent a procedure to have a pacemaker/ICD placed in his chest at the age of 24. In his deepest and darkest moments, Ty turned to the arts to help him express the turmoil he was going through.
Now a Father, an Artist, and Creative Director who uses his talents to express his pains and desires in hopes that his art will help others lift themselves out of their dark spaces too. He believes that everyone goes through some form of adversity, but much is to be gained and learned when overcoming hardships; you must never give up, keep pushing.
